The Arcadia Round Barn is a landmark and tourist attraction on historic U.S. Route 66 in Arcadia, Oklahoma. It was built in 1898 by a local farmer, William Harrison Odor. He used native bur oak boards soaked while green and forced into the curved shape needed for the walls and roof rafters. The idea in building a round barn was a curved surface would catch less wind, compared to a flat surface, and indeed the barn has stood the test of time. A second level was incorporated for use as a community gathering place for dances and other social activities. The dome created great acoustics for music.

In the 1920's the newly commissioned Route 66 was aligned through the town, passing beside the Round Barn. In June 1924, a fire in Arcadia destroyed most of the business district, but left the barn intact. In 1987 Edmond incorporated the town of Arcadia. The Round Barn is a beautiful landmark on Route 66 and a vivid part of our local history.

If you haven't been to the Chicken Shack in Arcadia which is their new location off Route 66 I highly suggest adding it to your list! Date night, special events, meet your friends, and bring the kids! They have live music most nights, tons of seating inside and out, a playground for the kids, and you can't beat their chicken and margaritas. I love seeing my town grow and this is a stop worth taking!

  • Arcadia is the area surrounding Lake Arcadia, including the town of Arcadia, just east of Edmond and Oklahoma City. Lake Arcadia is east of I-35, between Route 66 and I-44. I live in and am very familiar with the area.

The area boasts many attractions, including the Round Barn, Pops on Historic Route 66 with its famous giant neon pop bottle, Lake Arcadia, and abundant beautiful landscapes. If you're thinking you would like to get away from the city and still have all the conveniences of city living, Arcadia might just be the place for you. All the amenities of the city are close by and residents still enjoy a rural atmosphere.

If you enjoy wildlife, Arcadia has plenty to offer. Residents report frequent sightings of deer, coyotes, turkeys, hawks, birds of all kinds, bobcats, and more. Lake Arcadia even hosts an annual Eagle Watch. The lake offers fishing, swimming, boating and skiing, pedestrian and equestrian trails, hunting and more.

There are homes in the Arcadia area for almost any budget: prices start in the $200k's, median prices are in the $300k's, and there are luxury properties priced at $1M and up. Many homes have large lots or acreages. Thinking of building? Again, there's something for almost any budget. Acreages range in price from $5,000 per acre to $125,000 per acre and range in size from .25 acre to 80 acre tracts, in subdivided neighborhoods or unplatted properties. Of course, there are waterfront properties available, too. The area offers easy access to I-35 and all the shopping, dining, health, and other services available in Edmond and Oklahoma City. So check out Arcadia. It's worth a look!
